PIES is a mission-driven corporation whose goals are meant to deliver societal good.

Introduction

Truly great businesses are not born out of a desire to profit, they are forged to accomplish something meaningful and valuable, and the profit follows. The PIES Economy has been designed from the ground up to effect transformational economic reform in America. This objective is broad, complex, and hard to define, but our mission statement is our best attempt to capture our vision of greatness – our idea of what it would mean to succeed.

Understanding Our Mission

We are on a mission to save the world.

In a world of over 8 billion people, in a country of over 340 million people, there are numerous causes worthy of attention. For what possible reason would an organization try to save the world through economics? The answer is simple: economics is what’s threatening the world in the first place.

And so, we introduce the concept of economic nirvana. Nirvana, enlightenment, etc. are complex terms with varied interpretations. We interpret the pursuit of enlightenment to be the pursuit of self-actualization: to become one’s best self.

It is said that to attain nirvana is to attain an eternal state of bliss. So when we refer to nirvana, this is simply our way of saying “the pursuit of happiness”, an American right that we greatly value.

This pursuit of nirvana is up to the interpretation of the one doing it. However, regardless of what you think your best self is, you will not be able to walk the path of self-improvement without some pre-requisites. This is where we intercept with economics.

It’s a lot harder to focus on bettering yourself when you’re struggling to put food on the table. It’s hard to focus on yourself at all when you, your children, your partner, your parents, and/or your friends are struggling with financial challenges, environmental and health harm, burn out, or worse as a direct result of America’s current economic ecosystem.

All of this economic activity impedes our ability to be good people, let alone become our best selves. It consequently impedes the American dream and our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Therefore, it is essential to foster an economic environment that better serves its people.

This is our approach to saving the world. Create economic nirvana, wherein people have the means and the opportunities to live lives that better serve themselves, their communities, and the planet. We’re not saving the world ourselves; we’re giving the world the means to save itself.

What is “PIES”?

PIES stands for the Peoples’ Institute for the Enlightenment of Society. This entity is the mission-driven c-corporation, registered in Michigan, that’s building the PIES Economy. The name of our organization captures our mission. Let’s break it down:

Peoples’

Humanity is comprised of many peoples, all of whom are valued and included in our vision.

Institute

As an institute, our organization is founded around a central purpose. In our case, that purpose is our mission.

Enlightenment

Enlightenment is another name for nirvana, and it is the pursuit of enlightenment that will enable the world to save itself.

Society

We will build a healthier economic ecosystem with the conditions for people to pursue their best selves. This will have a snowball effect that benefits more and more people, until it eventually benefits all of society.

Conclusion

We are an organization centrally focused on the mission of individual and societal self-actualization for all peoples. We’re not here to tell anyone how to be a good person, but we are here to help create the conditions for people to help themselves. We believe these individuals will go on to benefit their communities, which will go on to benefit the whole world.
